skip to content prism2 partnership for research in simulation of manufacturing and materials menu home people research partners/industry publications contact prism 2 is a research centre at the university of birmingham, with expertise in the modelling of materials, manufacturing and design for high technology applications in the aerospace and power generation sectors. it is located in the interdisciplinary research centre (irc) on the university of birmingham’s edgbaston campus. there are strong links with the manufacturing technology centre (mtc) and high temperature research centre (htrc) based at ansty park, coventry. a centre for integrated computational materials engineering (icme) integrated computational materials engineering (icme) is a multi-disciplinary field for product design that focuses on modelling material microstructure, mechanical properties and manufacturing combined with experimentation to enable validated analysis of component material behaviour for design, development, production and use. it offers huge economic potential and the successful implementation of icme will revolutionise the way components are being designed and manufactured the prism2 research group aim to “to deliver validated software solutions for component design and manufacture to industry through the integration of computer modelling, advanced experimentation and novel manufacturing technology”. this will approach will drive innovation and increase competitiveness in uk manufacturing sectors by reducing the time to market and increasing component performance and will be achieved through fundamental and applied research aiming to establish the causal relationships between microstructure and properties to reduce phenomenology and allow location-specific property predictions . the group are currently engaged on a number of industry-funded icme research activities . the approach to icme utilises physics-based models at a number of length and temporal scales to predict microstructure and properties over a wide range of processing conditions. this includes in-house codes for discrete dislocation dynamics, crystal plasticity, precipitation kinetics for nucleation and growth (cluster dynamics, kinetic monte-carlo, mean field) and large deformation finite element codes. the prism 2 group has a dedicated hpc cluster for multi-scale materials and large-scale process modelling together with the appropriate commercial finite element and computational fluid dynamics software tools. search for: search recent posts micro-mechanics of polymer crystallization latest prism2 news or events recent comments archives june 2018 march 2017 categories uncategorized meta log in entries rss comments rss wordpress.org home people research partners/industry publications contact prism2 proudly powered by wordpress
